Television Show Summary

The ‘70s TV show The Young Rebels was aired on ABC during its 1970 fall season.

TV Show Plot For Young Rebels, The

The Young Rebels detailed the exploits of a fictional group of guerillas called the “Yankee Doodle Society” fighting on the patriot side during the American Revolutionary War. They were based in Chester, Pennsylvania. The show took place over the year 1777. The group would work as spies for the rebels and attempted to harass the British forces as much as they could.

The main characters of The Young Rebels included Chester’s mayor’s son Jeremy (Rick Ely), a former slave called Isak (Louis Gossett, Jr.), a clever young man called Henry (Alex Henteloff) who bears a striking resemblance to his hero Ben Franklin, and Jeremy’s young girlfriend Elizabeth (Hillary Thompson). This crew was joined by a young French rebel called the Marquis de Lafayette (Philippe Forquet), who is inspired by their efforts and also hopes to import many of their strategies to his own country.

Despite its integrity and scope of ambition, not to mention its high production values, The Young Rebels did not find much of an audience. It was cancelled halfway in to its first season.
