The ‘70s TV show Phyllis was a spin off of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It was broadcast on the CBS network in the middle of the decade.

TV Show Plot For Phyllis

Phyllis starred Cloris Leachman in the title role, who was previously the landlady of Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. After her husband Lars passes away, Phyliss moves to San Francisco alongside her daughter Bess. San Francisco, it was revealed, was actually Phyllis’s home town.

Lars’s mother Audrey (played by Jane Rose) and stepfather Judge Jonathan Dexter (played by Henry Jones) play host to Bess and Phyllis in San Francisco. Phyllis eventually lands a job working in a photography studio as an assistant. On the second season of the show, Phyllis leaves the photography studio and gets a job working for a San Francisco City Supervisor, who was portrayed by John Lawlor.

Other Phyllis characters included Mother Dexter, who was played by the older actress Judith Lowry, and Arthur Lanson, who was portrayed by Burt Mustin. The two get married in an episode on the show; sadly, both of the actors passed away not long after the episode aired.
