TV Show Plot For Fantasy Island

Fantasy Island starred Ricardo Montalban as Mr. Roarke, the proprietor of a special island somewhere in the Pacific where anyone could come and live out their fantasies – for a price. Mr. Roarke’s sidekick was Tattoo, played by the midget actor Herve Villechaize. Every time a plane arrived, bringing a new guest to the island, Tattoo would run up to the bell tower, ring the bell and shout, “The plane! The plane!” The line became an unlikely catch phrase thanks to Villechaize’s enthusiastic delivery of the line in his typical French accent.

Early in the Fantasy Island series, it was established that each guest had to pay $50,000 in order to have his or her fantasy fulfilled. Later, that fee depended on how much the guest could actually afford – one little girl merely emptied her piggy bank in order to have hers fulfilled. In this sense, Fantasy Island was essentially presented as a business endeavor.
