TV Show Plot For Family

Doug and Kate Lawrence, a happily married couple, were portrayed by James Broderick and Sada Thompson. The Lawrences resided in Pasadena, California. Doug was a lawyer, while Kate was a housewife. Their three kids were Nancy (Meredith Baxter), Willie (Gary Frank), and Buddy (Kristy McNichol).

The idea of the show was to portray an average American family, warts and all. In the first episode of the series, a pregnant Nancy walks in on her husband having sex with one of her friends. Other topics explored included Kate trying to come to terms with the fact that she might have breast cancer, and Buddy dealing with boys’ advances. Several episodes dealt with Buddy’s emerging sexuality; on several occasions, she would have to decide whether or not to have sex, and she always decided to wait – even when it came to the advances of guest star Leif Garrett, who at the time was an American teen idol.
