TV Show Plot For F.B.I., The

The F.B.I. featured fictionalized accounts based on true F.B.I. cases. It was based in part on the film The FBI Story, which was released by Warner Brothers in the year 1959. The show featured Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. as Inspector Lewis Erskine. Arthur Ward, J. Edgar Hoover’s assistant, was played by Philip Abbott. Hoover himself declined to appear in the series, although he served as the show’s consultant until his death in the year 1972.

Special Agent Jim Rhodes, the assistant of Inspector Erskine, was played by Stephen Brooks for the first two seasons of The F.B.I. Erskine’s daughter Barbara was played by Lynn Loring. For a while, there existed a romantic spark between Rhodes and Barbara, but that idea was later dropped from the series.

William Reynolds took on the role of Special Agent Tom Colby in the year 1967 when Brooks left the show. It was during Reynolds’ tenure that The F.B.I. attained its highest ratings.
