TV Show Plot For Dragnet

The TV show Dragnet is widely regarded as the most popular police drama in television history. It emphasized real life aspects of police work, including the less positive sides, such as drudgery and boredom. Webb himself starred on the show as Sergeant Friday. His goal was to present unpretentious acting with gritty realism. He managed to achieve both with Dragnet.

While it started out as a radio show in the 1940s, Dragnet first went on the television airwaves in the early 1950s.

Trivia for the TV Show Dragnet

The TV show Dragnet popularized the phrase “just the facts, ma’am.” But in actuality, it was never stated in those exact words on the show. Rather, the variations included “All we want are the facts, ma’am” and “All we know are the facts, ma’am.”

Webb’s performance of Sergeant Friday was so convincing that, at the height of the show’s popularity, people would come to Los Angeles Police Department City Hall asking to speak to Sergeant Friday. They were usually told that it was his day off!
