The story of The Courtship of Eddie’s Father centers on Tom Corbett, a Los Angeles publisher and widower who must take on the responsibility of raising his cute freckled faced six year old son Eddie, who is an expert when it comes to manipulating his dad. Eddie eventually persuades his father to start dating other women.

Tom’s wise and diplomatic housekeeper is Mrs. Livingston. On The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, she was played by Miyoshi Umeki. Tina Rickles (Kristina Holland) was Corbett’s secretary at the magazine company he worked for.

In the year 1970, Bixby began directing episodes of The Courtship of Eddie’s Father himself.
