TV Show Plot For Bonanza

Bonanza’s story centered around the Cartwrights, a family headed by the wise widower Ben Cartwright (Lorne Greene). His three sons include the smart but moody Adam (Pernell Roberts), the fun loving Eric or “Hoss” (Dan Blocker), and the hot tempered “Little Joe” (Michael Landon). Victor Sen Yung played the family’s Chinese immigrant cook, Hop Sing.

Bonanza was set on the Cartwright family ranch, the Ponderosa, on the shore of Nevada’s Lake Tahoe.

A running gag on the show was that each time one of the sons became romantically involved with a woman, she would die. The same thing also happened to the father; thus each of the sons had a different mother.

Over the years, Bonanza has spawned numerous made for TV movies. These include Bonanza: The Movie, Back to Bonanza, Bonanza: The Return, Bonanza: Under Attack and 1995’s Bonanza: The Next Generation.

The Nevada set of Bonanza was recreated in Incline Village, Nevada in the late 1960s and remained a popular tourist attraction until it was sold in the year 2004.
