Television Show Summary

The 70s TV show 20/20 was first broadcast in the 70's and continues to air to this day. The TV series was created by Roone Arledge as a sort of counterpart to 60 Minutes, but with a focus on human interest issues rather than political ones.

TV Show Plot For 20/20

20/20 was originally hosted by Robert Hughes and Harold Hayes. The premiere episode, however, was so poorly received that the following week the pair were replaced by Hugh Downs. A year later, Downs was joined by Barbara Walters, formerly of the Today show.

In the year 1999, Hugh Downs retired from 20/20. For a few years, Barbara Walters was the sole hostess of the show. Then, in 2002, John Miller was hired to join Barbara Walters. A year later, Miller left the show. He was then replaced by John Stossel. After Walters left 20/20 in the year 2004, she was replaced by Elizabeth Vargas.

For a brief period in the 1990s, 20/20 merged with Primetime Live in order to compete with NBC’s Dateline.
