Last Embrace was Jonathan Demme’s first attempt at a commercial film. It is very much rooted in the style of Alfred Hitchcock.

The story of Last Embrace involves Harry Hannan (Roy Scheider), a government agent recovering from a catatonic collapse that occurred after his wife was murdered. He returns to work, and is not sure whether he is paranoid or if his co-workers are attempting to kill him. Will the situation be helped or hindered by the relationship he forms with a nervous graduate student he finds out is living in his apartment? Watch this shocking film to find out!
