Rare Earth Artist Fact: In the year 1961, the band was founded as The Sunliners. Six years later, they decided to change their name to Rare Earth. Following the release of an unsuccessful record called Dreams/Answers, the band was signed to Motown Records in the year 1969. Rare Earth would be the first band signed to a new Motown imprint dedicated to white rock and roll bands. Motown had not come up with a name for the imprint at the time of signing.
