Wilson Pickett Artist Bio and LyricsThe 70's rock and roll artist Wilson Pickett was born on the 18th of March 1941. He is perhaps best known for his raspy singing voice. His contribution to the development of soul music in the 20th century is unprecedented.
Wilson Pickett was also one of the key players in the development of the Southern soul sound. In the course of the 1960s and 1970s, he recorded some of the South’s funkiest music of all time. In the year 1991, Pickett was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pickett was born in Alabama, the youngest of eleven children in a family with an abusive mother. In the year 1955, he left to go live with his father in Detroit. He sang in the church choir while growing up. In Detroit, Pickett became more serious about music, eventually landing a record deal with the Atlantic Records label. His breakthrough hit was “In the Midnight Hour.” In the year 2006, Pickett died of a heart attack.
