Thin Lizzy Artist Bio and LyricsThe Irish hard rock outfit Thin Lizzy were formed in Dublin in the late 1960s. Originally, the band was fronted by bass player Phil Lynott. Thin Lizzy is perhaps best known for their song from the late 1970s “The Boys Are Back in Town,” which has since become a staple on classic rock radio stations.
Lynott has been regarded as a formidable influence on the development of hard rock, focusing his songwriting on subjects typically favored by folk rockers such as Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and Bob Dylan. He also added an Irish flavor to the mix. Indeed, Van Morrison was a major influence on Lynott’s writing, as he reveals in the motion picture Thin Lizzy the Rocker: A Portrait of Philllip Lynott. The band was further influenced by such American rock and roll acts as Bob Seger and Little Feat. While Thin Lizzy is generally considered to be a heavy metal or hard rock act, throughout their long career the band has explored other musical territories as well, including folk and country music. The albums of Thin Lizzy include Thin Lizzy, Shades of a Blue Orphanage, Vagabonds of the Western World, Nightlife, Fighting, Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox, Bad Reputation, Black Rose: A Rock Legend, Chinatown, Renegade, Thunder and Lightning, Live and Dangerous, Life, BBC Radio One Live in Concert, The Peel Sessions, Boys are Back in Town: Live in Australia, One Night Only, The Beginning Vol. 12, Remembering, Rocker, Continuing Saga of Ageing Orphans, Profile, The Japanese Compilation Album, The Adventures of Thin Lizzy, and Lizzy Killers. |
