Orleans Artist Bio and Lyrics

The American rock and roll band Orleans is perhaps best known for their 1970s hits “Love Takes Time,” “Dance With Me,” and “Still the One.” Orleans was started in Woodstock, New York in the year 1972. The original line up consisted of Wells Kelly, John Hall, and Larry Hoppen. Eventually, Hoppen’s brother Lance was added to the line up.

Lyrics Still The One

Orleans got their start by touring New England alongside such up and coming acts as Hall & Oates, Bonnie Raitt, and Tom Waits. Early on, they were called “the best unrecorded American band” by Rolling Stone. Eventually, they were signed to the label ABC Dunhill. Their first album was released in the year 1973. But it was not until 1975 that the band would score their first major hit with “Let There Be Music,” a track that was produced by Chuck Plotkin of Asylum Records.

The band’s follow up, “Dance With Me,” made it to the Top Five and became a mainstream hit in the United States. The song was different from the harder style of music Orleans had previously been identified with, and re-cast them in a more “soft rock” kind of light. It led to a tour with Melissa Manchester.

Orleans would score yet another hit with “Still the One.” The song made it to Number Two on the charts, during the course of which Orleans toured the country with Jackson Browne. Hall left the band around this time in order to launch a solo career. Orleans continues to record and perform to this day.
