Marmalade Artist Bio and LyricsThe Scottish rock band Marmalade were a well known outfit. They were initially led by Dean Ford, the singer.
Marmalade were distinguishable from other acts of their era by the fact that their line up included two bass players. The band’s original name was Dean Ford and the Gaylords. In the mid-60s, they released several singles that did not do so well. At this point, they decided to change their name to Marmalade. The band’s next round of singles also failed, although one of them, “I See the Rain,” became a minor hit in the Netherlands. Jimi Hendrix was also allegedly a fan of the band during this era. The group was getting pressure from their label to come up with a hit. With the release of another failed single, “Man In a Shop,” things became tense. Eventually, in the late 1960s, the band released a cover of the Beatles tune “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” with which they made it to the top of the charts in the United Kingdom. This made them the first Scottish band ever to make it to the Number One position. They later had another hit with “Rainbow.” Marmalade continues to tour to this day, although only one original member, Graham Knight, is left in the line up. The most popular songs by Marmalade include “Lovin’ Things,” “Wait For Me Mary Anne,” “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da,” “Baby Make It Soon,” “Reflections of My Life,” “Rainbow,” “My Little One,” “Cousin Norman,” “Back on the Road,” “Radancer,” and “Falling Apart at the Seams.” |
