The vast majority of Exile’s songs were composed by Pennington, often with the help of LeMaire. “The Closer You Get” was later covered by the country music group Alabama. In 1996, their song “Kiss You All Over” was featured in the film Happy Gilmore starring Adam Sandler.

The band had switched line ups constantly over the years. There have been a total of 35 members of Exile in the past. Although they were broken up for a while, Pennington and Taylor got back together and performed as a duo one night at a club in Lexington in the year 1995. Exile continues to perform on an occasional basis.

The best known songs of Exile include “Try It On,” “Kiss You All Over,” “You Thrill Me,” “How Could This Go Wrong,” “The Part Of Me That Needs You Most,” “Too Proud to Cry,” “Heart and Soul,” “High Cost of Leaving,” “Woke Up In Love,” “I Don’t Wanna Be a Memory,” “Give Me One More Chance,” “Crazy For Your Love,” “Stay With Me,” “She’s a Miracle,” “Dixie Girl,” “Hang On To Your Heart,” and “She’s Too Good to be True.”
