Eric Carmen Artist Bio and LyricsBorn Eric Howard Carmen on the 11th of August 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, Eric Carmen is a famous 70's American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Carmen was obsessed with music from an early age. By the age of two, he was already doing impressions of Johnnie Ray and Tony Bennett for his parents. At the age of six, he began taking violin lessons. By the time he hit high school age, Carmen was singing and playing piano in rock bands.
As a classically trained musician, Carmen was able to teach himself how to play guitar. Although he began by taking lessons, he disliked the teacher’s approach, and ultimately taught himself with the help of a Beatles music book. In college, Carmen became more serious about music, ultimately joining the short lived band Cyrus Erie. In addition to Carmen, the band featured Wally Bryson, Jim Bonfanti, and Dave Smalley. After the band’s break up, the four musicians would team up to form the Raspberries, who would go on to become one of the chief proponents of power pop. In the middle of the 1970s, the Raspberries broke up. At that point, Carmen launched his solo career, becoming known for his soft rock ballads. The albums of Eric Carmen include Eric Carmen, Boats Against the Current, Change of Heart, Tonight You’re Mine, 1984’s Eric Carmen, The Best of Eric Carmen, and I Was Born to Love You. With the Raspberries, Carmen is featured on the albums The Raspberries, Fresh Raspberries, Side 3, Starting Over, and Raspberries Best. |
