Delfonics Artist Bio and LyricsThe Delfonics were a popular Philadelphia based soul singing group who reached the height of their popularity in the 1960s and 1970s. The group was formed in high school by brothers Wilbert and William Hart along with Randy “Rudy” Cain. It wasn’t long before they became known throughout Philadelphia. They eventually scored a record deal with Cameo Records. At Cameo, they would begin working with a producer by the name of Thom Bell, who would eventually propel them to stardom. The Delfonics’ major hit singles included “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind This Time)” and “Ready or Not Here I Come (Can’t Hide From Love).”
The Philadelphia soul sound engineered in part by the Delfonics differentiated itself from traditional soul by being smoother and rooted more firmly in the 1950s doo-wop sounds, as well as Phil Spector style production. Cain would leave the group in the early 1970s. He was replaced by Major Harris. By that period, however, Bell was no longer working with the band, and their career began a steady decline. The band, however, continues to this day. The current line-up includes William Hart, Johnny Johnson, and Garfield Fleming. The albums of the Delfonics include La La La Means I Love You, Sound of Sexy Soul, Super Hits, The Delfonics, Tell Me This Is a Dream, Alive & Kicking, Back 2 Back: Delfonics and Chi-Lites, The Professionals, Greatest Hits & More, Forever New, Didn’t I Blow Your Mind, Delfonics Collection, Love Songs, La La Means I Love You, and Delfonics R&B Soul. |
