Debby Boone Artist Bio and LyricsBorn Deborah Ann Boone on the 22nd of September 1956, Debby Boone is a renowned American singer and stage actress. She is perhaps best known for her son “You Light Up My Life,” which was a major hit in the year 1977. In the following two decades, she would become a successful singer of Christian music.
In addition to “You Light Up My Life,” Boone is also known for her performance of the song “When You Are Loved.” It was featured in the film The Magic of Lassie and nominated for an Oscar. The film was written by the Sherman Brothers. A few years later, she would score a major country hit with “Are You On the Road to Lovin’ Me Again.” In recent years, Debby Boone has devoted most of her energies to the theatre. She has performed in tours of the musicals Grease, The King and I, and The Sound of Music. She also appeared in a Broadway production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Boone has written several books for children with Gabriel Ferrer illustrations. She has also recorded children’s music. She has won several GMA Dove Awards for her contributions to Christian music. More recently, Boone released an album in memoriam to her late mother-in-law, entitled Reflections of Rosemary.
