Christie Artist Bio and LyricsWith a history stemming back to the late 1960s, Christie was a popular British band. The original line-up of Christie included Jeff Christie, who was the band’s principle songwriter, as well as Vic Elmes, who played the guitar, and Mike Blakley on drums.
Before forming his own band, Christie played with several others, including the Outer Limits and Acid Gallery. After forming Christie, the band had their first Number One hit in England with “Yellow River.” The song also scored high on the charts in the United States. “San Bernadino” was the name of the band’s next single, which did well in both the United Kingdom and Germany, but failed to have much of an impact in the United States. The band’s eponymous debut album of 1970 would remain on the Billboard charts in America for ten weeks. Paul Fenton replaced Blakley shortly before the release of Christie’s next album, For All Mankind. 1972’s Iron Horse saw the addition of Lem Lubin to the line-up. The title track off that album would be Christie’s last major single. Fenton and Lubin left the band soon after. Christie attempted to forge onwards with new members, but the band never went very far after that. Christie finally broke up in the year 1976, but their music still lives on today. Jeff Christie went on to release a couple of solo singles and write jingles for commercials. The albums of Christie include Christie, For All Mankind, The Third Album?, Los Mas Grandes Exitos, Christie (Mexico), and Christie Again – Greatest Hits and More. |
