Chicago Artist Bio and LyricsThe rock and roll band Chicago was formed in the late 1960s in Chicago, Illinois. While the band was more politically motivated and experimental in its earliest incarnation, Chicago later mutated in to a softer, more radio friendly sound. Eventually, the band would produce a number of popular ballads. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Chicago scored numerous hits.
Starting out as a cover band featuring students from DePaul University’s music school, Chicago eventually moved to Los Angeles and were signed to Columbia Records. Known at the time as “The Chicago Transit Authority,” the band’s eponymous debut album was a sprawling double LP featuring jazzy, experimental guitars and instrumentals. Shortly after the album’s debut, the real Chicago Transit Authority threatened to sue the band, and so they shortened their name to simply Chicago. Throughout the 1970s, Chicago released a string of top selling albums and singles. In 1976, their hit single “If You Leave Me Now” made it to Number One on the charts and won a Grammy Award. The albums of Chicago include The Chicago Transit Authority, Chicago, Chicago III, Chicago at Carnegie Hall, Chicago V, Chicago VI, Chicago VII, Chicago VIII, Chicago IX – Chicago’s Greatest Hits, Chicago X, Chicago XI, Hot Streets, Chicago 13, Chicago XIV, Greatest Hits Volume II, Chicago 16, Chicago 17, Chicago 18, Chicago 19, Greatest Hits 1982-1989, Twenty 1, Night and Day Big Band, The Heart of Chicago 1967-1997, The Heart of Chicago 1967-1998 Volume II, Chicago XXV: The Christmas Album, and Love Songs. |
