Charlie Rich Artist Bio and LyricsThe American songwriter and musician Charlie Rich was born in 1932. He is known for his eclectic style of music, which blends jazz, rockabilly, blues, gospel, and country. Late in life, Rich began to be affectionately referred to as the Silver Fox, owing to his head of silver gray hair.
Charlie Rich was signed to Epic Records in the late 1960s thanks to the recommendations of producer Billy Sherrill. It was Sherrill who would aid Rich in the process of becoming a Nashville Sound balladeer. Charlie Rich’s new “Countrypolitan” image and sound resulted in the smash hit “I Take it On Home” in 1972. The following year, the title track off Rich’s album Behind Closed Doors would make it to Number One on the charts. Rich is perhaps best known for the song “The Most Beautiful Girl In the World.” For his major impact on rock and roll in its early days, Rich was inducted in to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Charlie Rich, Jr., Rich’s son, is also a renowned musician.
