Brothers Johnson Artist Bio and LyricsGeorge Johnson and Louis Johnson form the 70's band the Brothers Johnson. After touring with such high profile artists as Billy Preston and Bobby Womack, they were eventually hired by Quincy Jones to tour Japan. Jones would produce the Brothers Johnson’s first album, Look Out for Number One, which came out in 1976 and made it to Number Nine on the American charts. Right on Time, the Brothers Johnson’s follow-up record, was released in 1977 and made it to Number Thirteen on the charts. This was followed by Blam!! the following year, which would catapult to Number Seven on the Billboard 200 Charts.
“Ain’t We Funkin’ Now,” “Stomp!”, “Strawberry Letter 23,” and “I’ll be Good to You” rate as some of the duo’s most popular numbers. With a style fusing elements of R&B, disco, and funk, the Brothers Johnson gained a loyal following. They broke up in 1982 to pursue other activities. After the Brothers Johnson, George Johnson began working with Steve Arrington. Louis Johnson recorded an album of gossip music and also played bass on Michael Jackson’s famous Thriller album. The Brothers made a come back in the mid-80s with a new album, Out of Control. While it scored them one R&B hit, “You Keep Coming Back,” the album was not as successful as their previous efforts.
