Boston Artist Bio and LyricsThe American rock group Boston is famous for the music they produced when they were at the height of their career, notably in the 1970s and 1980s. It is the project of Tom Scholz, the band’s songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Since their formation, the band’s output has rapidly elevated them to the top of most classic rock play lists. Some of their best known songs include “Peace of Mind,” “Amanda,” “More Than a Feeling,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Don’t Look Back,” “Smokin,’” and “Rock and Roll Band.”
The history of Boston extends back to the late 1970s, when an MIT graduate named Tom Scholz began making a series of recordings at his home studio alongside Barry Goudreau on guitars and Jim Masdea on drums. While the first set of tapes the fledgling band recorded failed to get any label attention, a second set of tapes with a new singer by the name of Brad Delp drew the interest of Epic Records. At the label’s urging, Masdea was replaced by another drummer by the name of Sib Hashian. Bassist Fran Sheehan was also hired around this time. The label insisted that Boston record their debut album in a proper studio, but Scholz secretly recorded the majority of the tracks in his home studio. The resulting album, the band’s eponymous debut, would go on to sell over seventeen million copies, making it the best selling debut album in American history. Boston’s albums include Boston, Don’t Look Back, Third Stage, Walk On, Greatest Hits, and Corporate America. |
