Blue Magic Artist Bio and LyricsThe history of the soul vocal group Blue Magic can be traced back to the year 1973, when Randy Cain of the Delfonics invited the singer and songwriter Ted Mills to do some writing for his Philadelphia production company. Not long after, the group Shades of Blue came in to audition. While they were talented, executives decided that the group lacked a charismatic lead singer. Mills was added to the group’s line-up, and their name was changed to Blue Magic. That year, the group was signed to Atlantic Records. Norman Harris produced the group’s early material.
Blue Magic scored numerous hits on the R&B charts. Their first major hits were “Sideshow” and “Three Ring Circus,” both of which made it to the charts in the year 1974. Blue Magic would become known for their lulling smooth ballads. Released in 1975, the group’s album Thirteen Blue Magic Lane was a high point of their career. It featured the popular hit “We’re On the Right Track.” In recent years, Blue Magic reunited and continue to tour extensively. The current line up consists of Vernon Sawyer, Wendell Sawyer, Wade Elliot, and Keith “Duke” Beaton. Original front man Ted Mills is pursuing a career as a solo act. The albums of Blue Magic include Blue Magic, Magic of the Blue, Thirteen Blue Magic Lane, Live, Mystic Dragons, Message From the Magic, Welcome Back, Magic #, From Out of the Blue, Blue Magic – Greatest Hits, My Magic is Real, and The Best of Blue Magic: Soulful Spell. |
