Bloodstone Artist Bio and LyricsBloodstone was formed in the ‘60s in Kansas City. Shortly thereafter, however, the band decided to relocate to London in the hopes of kickstarting their career in the music biz. By the time of their overseas relocation in 1971, the band consisted of Melvin Webb on drums, Roger Durham on percussion, Charles Love on guitar and vocals, Charles McCormack on bass, Harry Williams on percussion, and Willis Draffen on guitar.
Soon after arriving in London, Bloodstone managed to catch the attention of Mike Vernon, a producer who was quite popular at the time owing to his successful work with numerous blues and rock bands. Vernon contributed much to helping the band mold their signature sound. Within a couple of years, their song “Natural High” became a hit single. Just as the band was rising to prominence, Webb and Durham both met untimely deaths in the year 1973. Eddie Summers was brought on board to take Webb’s place. Bloodstone are noted for being one of the most ambitious bands of the 1970s. In addition to their own repertoire, the band was also known for their covers of classic tracks by Elvis and the Coasters as well as Bo Didley. The band even starred in their own film, Train Ride to Hollywood, in 1975. Bloodstone’s albums include Bloodstone, Natural High, Unreal, I Need Time, Riddle of the Sphinx, Last Train to Hollywood, Do You Wanna Do a Thing, Don’t Stop, We Go a Long Way Back, The Very Best Of, and Go On and Cry, a compilation of later material. |
