Blondie Artist Bio and LyricsThe American rock group Blondie first rose to prominence in the late ‘70s. They are credited for being one of the first bands to get the New York punk and New Wave scene off the ground. The band’s first two records captured the underground vibes coming out of the American East Coast cultural capital at the time, and while they did incredibly well overseas – particularly in the UK and Australia – the albums failed to register with the general American public. It was not until the release of the band’s third album in the year 1978 that they were able to attain mainstream prominence in their home country.
Throughout the last years of the 1970s, Blondie began adding more disparate styles of music to their sound, combining elements of pop, disco, and even reggae to their New Wave roots. The combination worked, and Blondie scored numerous hit singles during this period. But tensions were brewing within the band during this period. Frontwoman Deborah Harry attained a level of fame and stature that made other members of the group envious. In 1982, following the release of a badly received record, the group broke up. Blondie got back to together in the late 1990s to record and release a studio album, scoring a Number One hit in the UK with the song “Maria.” In 2006, Blondie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Blondie’s albums include Blondie, Plastic Letters, Parallel Lines, Eat to the Beat, Autoamerican, The Hunter, No Exit, and The Curse of Blondie. |
