Bill Conti Artist Bio and LyricsThe American film musical director Bill Conti was born in 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island. By the age of 15, Conti was already an accomplished orchestra director. After graduating from Louisiana State University, he went on to work in the film industry.
Conti’s big break, however, would come in the year 1976, when the young music director was chosen as musical director of the film that would make a celebrity out of Sylvester Stallone, Rocky. His name would feature prominently on the film’s soundtrack album, its theme song (“Gonna Fly Now”) would be nominated for Best Song at that year’s Academy Awards, and his career in the film industry was solidified. Highlights from that illustrious career include an Academy Award winning score for the film The Right Stuff; scoring HBO’s first film, The Terry Fox Story; supplying the music for For Your Eyes Only, the James Bond movie (after John Barry refused to return to the UK); the score for all three Karate Kid films, recordings of which now go for over $100 on CD; the themes to such television series as The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, Falcon Crest, and Dynasty. The theme song to American Gladiators was also composed by Conti, after which the composer was asked to work with CBS on the jingle for the film. Conti also wrote ABC News’ PrimeTime Live. Conti’s other credits include The Thomas Crown Affair, That Championship Season, Bad Boys, and the American remake of the Luc Besson film The Big Blue. |
