BT Express Artist Bio and Lyrics

Originally known as the King Davis House Rockers, this Brooklyn-based 70's dance group soon after changed their name to Brooklyn Trucking Express before finally settling on a shortened version, BT Express. BT Express’s early work fused funk with disco in a highly original fashion, and resulted in numerous hits on the charts.

The band consisted of singer Barbara Joyce, Bill Risbrook on tenor saxophone and flute, Carlos Ward on alto saxophone and flute, Louis Risbrook on bass, Richard Thompson on guitar, percussionist Dennis Rowe, Michael Jones on keyboards, and Leslie Ming on drums. The band’s debut album, Do It ‘Til You’re Satisfied, was released in 1974. The album was commended by critics for its tight funky disco grooves, with perfectly synchronized guitar and bass, horns and strings filling the background, with perfectly excessive percussion. The album, produced by Jeff Lane and Trade Martin, scored the band many hits, including “Do It ‘Til You’re Satisfied” and “Express.”

For BT Express’s follow-up album, 1975’s Non-Stop, the band became more closely involved with the songwriting process. Highlights from this album included “Give It What You Got.” But by the release of their third album, Energy to Burn, the following year, the critics were losing interest. Nevertheless, BT Express kept plowing forward with four more albums. Shortly after the release of 1982’s Keep It Up, BT Express disbanded.

BT Express’s albums include Keep It Up, BT Express 1980, Shout!, Function at the Junction, Energy to Burn, Non-Stop, and Do It ‘Til You’re Satisfied.
