Andrew Gold Artist Bio and LyricsAndrew Gold was a 70’s artist to the max. He was a singer, musician (he plays several instruments), arranger and songwriter. Gold recorded four solo albums during the 70’s and had three songs reach the U.K. top 20 from those albums, including ‘Never Let Her Slip Away’ (No. 5 in 1978). Andrew Gold also had success on the U.S. music scene. His single ‘Lonely Boy’ reached the top 10 in 1977.
Andrew Gold’s mother and father were talented artists, as well. Gold’ mother, Marni Nixon, worked in several well-known plays. She created singing voiceovers for actresses. One of her most famous gigs was with West Side Story, where she sang the lyrics for actresses Natalie Wood. Gold’s father, Ernest, worked as a film soundtrack composer. Before his career as a solo artist, Gold was a member of Linda Ronstadt’s band. In the early 70’s, he was still working with Ronstadt on several of her albums while also beginning his own work. After the 70’s, Andre Gold gave up his solo career. He chose, instead, to write lyrics for artists such as Art Garfunkel and Cliff Richard. Later on, God teamed up with Graham Gouldman from the group 10cc to form the band Wax. |
