Albert Hammond Artist Bio and LyricsThis 70’s artist, born in 1944 in London, spent his childhood in Gibraltar, and then left for England to write songs for recording artists. In the early 70’s, Albert Hammond left England for Los Angeles to pursue his own recording career as a pop music artist. In 1972, his hit ‘It Never Rains in Southern California’ became a big hit.
Albert Hammond went on to record three more successful solo albums. Then he teamed up with Hal David, who was also a talented songwriter. David had worked with Burt Bacharach, who wrote songs for great talents such as the Drifters and Dionne Warwick. Hammond’s song ‘The Air That I Breathe’ became his biggest hit during the 70’s. The song was originally on his 1973 album ‘It Never Rains in Southern California’, but only become a hit when a band named the Hollies sang it. The Hollies’ version made the song into a hit in 1974 on both the U.K. and the U.S. charts. Not a bad career overall for a guy who originally became his music career as a Spanish language singer and songwriter. Albert Hammond wasn’t even 21 when he had his claim to fame in that arena. |
