Ace Artist Bio and LyricsAce formed in 1972. The founding members of Ace were Phil Harris (guitar and vocals), Paul Carrack (keyboards and vocals), Alan King (guitar and vocals), Steve Witherington (drums) and Terry Comer (bass). The first band member to leave the group was Witherington. He left before Ace even recorded their first album, ‘Five-A-Side’. Fran Byrne, a drummer for a group named Bees Make Honey, replaced Witherington.
This 70’s band started out performing in bars and made their way to mainstream success with hits like ‘How Long’ (out in 1974) and ‘Rock & Roll Runaway’ (out in 1975). Ace had unique sound that meshed a rock and pop atmosphere with soul-filled vocals. Their music had a slight funk sound to them. The band had originally named themselves Ace Flash and the Dynamos. It was shortened to Ace soon after. Ace produced three albums in the 70’s, ‘Five-A-Side’ (out in 1974), ‘Time For Another’ (out in 1975) and ‘No Strings’ (out in 1977). Other single not previously mentioned included ‘I Ain't Gonna Stand For This’ (out in 1975), ‘No Future In Your Eyes’ (out in 1975), ‘You're All That I Need’ (out in 1977) and ‘Found Out The Hard Way’ (out in 1977). |
