A Taste Of Honey Artist Bio and LyricsThis funky rhythm and blues 70’s band was made famous by two of their songs, ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’ and ‘Sukiyaki’. Surprisingly, these two hit singles were complete opposites of each other regardin style. ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’ was a dance disco song that came out in 1978. It sold over two million copies during the three-week period it was on the top ten chart. ‘Sukiyaki’ was a song originally sung by Kyu Sakamoto. The song had a very relaxed sound.
A Taste Of Honey consisted of members Janice Marie Johnson, Hazel Payne, Perry Kimble and Greg Walker. Janice and Hazel were both guitar players in the band—not an everyday sight that was seen in a 70’s band. Greg Walker was the lead singer, but didn’t stay for the entire life of the band. He left to join the band Santana, and Hazel Payne became his replacement. Perry Kimble played the keyboard. In addition to playing guitar, Janice also played bass guitar and did some of the singing for the group. Shortly after ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’ found its way across disco dance floors, A Taste Of Honey came out with the single ‘Do It Good’. It was among the top 20 on the R&B chart and at number 79 on the pop chart. |
